FIFTEEN GLORIOUS YEARS AND GROWING STRONG…

FIFTEEN GLORIOUS YEARS AND GROWING STRONG…

This month, heralds in some ways ushers in happy times in our lives as the festivals of India spring up around us…there is color, festivity, gaiety and celebration all around. In a welcome co-incidence the season also is a time for celebration of a special kind…that is, Ananya Sinchana completes fifteen years in the Carnatic music scene. This, by no means, is a small feat or achievement. This surely does call for a great celebration, acknowledgement and felicitation.
What started off as a small step many years ago as an initiative to promote music is today no less than a strong foothold in the minds of serious Carnatic music lovers and musicians with the  efforts and achievements both growing at great speed promising to create a new future in the classical music space.
For its creator and connoisseur Dr Ananya Raghavendra, this feeling that the magazine is fifteen years old elicits a mixed and emotional response. “So many memories spring up when I think of how this magazine was made, grew and today reaches over a 1000 subscribers all over the country, he says.”
The first edition of the magazine was released in the month of August, 1998.What a proud and momentous feeling that must have been for the creator and his team! It is truly interesting to read about the objectives and reasons for the launch of the magazine in those days. How would musicians inform art lovers about their upcoming performances? How would citizens be informed about the musical activities in their locality so they could plan ahead and make sure they are there to view and encourage the performances? How could serious musicians and their families showcase their art to larger audiences? Perhaps these and many more such serious ‘artistic’ concerns were reasons for the birth of the Ananya Sinchana.

Many of the musicians and artists have shared their positive feedback, encouragement and support for the growth of the magazine while also applauding its efforts in showcasing music and dance to people all over. They also believe that it’s a great initiative towards the cause of music development. Many youth icons and senior artists have sent in their best wishes for the magazines and have emphasized that this is a great and required effort…it must only grow stronger with the years.
Over the years…the magazine through its monthly editions has created a name and a niche for itself, has grown beyond being an ‘informer’ magazine. Today it’s a magazine which covers the events and developments of the Carnatic music and dance scene in and around the city with a special focus on the activities supported, created and encouraged by the Ananya group. In addition to that, it reaches out to serious music lovers and promoters by giving them a close feel of the musicians. It’s always a treat to read about the artists, their achievements, challenges and their devotion to music. It gives a deep perspective about the artist and his world to the music lovers.
Over the last fifteen years, a few hundred musicians have been featured in the magazine and the magazine today also covers the classical dance genre and the artists in that fold. In addition, it collects views and perspectives from cultural heads, art lovers, academicians, writers and more. It features special and significant art, music and dance festivals. It’s also a treat to see the beautiful photographs which actually are a repository. Legends, senior musicians and dancers have all been featured in the magazine making the magazine a treasure trove for one and all!
In my view, the magazine has played a much larger role and has a serious responsibility, the true reasons for its success and admiration, today. The magazine is a channel through which the serious dedication to music and dance is covered. It’s a medium through which the musicians get recognition, fanfare and art lovers get to into the skin of the musician. Subscribers get a feel and close-up of the people who support the cause and development. The magazine is today a medium of art. And this achievement of Dr Raghavendra and his team is a matter of great pride and honor for all us.
After sustaining and growing for over fifteen years, it’s time now to spread its wings wider and cover more places in terms of its reach and depth. We invite serious music lovers and artists to showcase their views, articles, perspectives, event coverage, thoughts and all of that to us through the magazine. If you want to pay your tribute to a legendary musician or share some thoughts about a rare raga or even give information about where to find literature on music and dance, please feel free to write to us.
To ensure that classical music is understood by more people, it’s cultural richness reaches more youth, more parents encourage their children to imbibe our great classical culture….make sure you spread the word, encourage more people to subscribe and be part of the great cause…that of development of the arts!
