Dr M R V Prasad.

Dr M R V Prasad.

Multi-faceted, talented and multi skilled dynamo, Dr M R V Prasad’s achievements are an example and above all, a reflection of his goals for the enhancement of society and people. Aparna S in conversation.
Dr M R V Prasad has added many feathers to his cap over these years. Physician, Politician, Educationist, Social Worker, Musician, Connoisseur, Art Lover...the list is endless as his achievements speak for themselves, of the life led and the example he is setting for many of us. When you begin speaking to the newly appointed Member of Sangeetha Natak Academy, one of the distinguished 5 selected for this prestigious role by the Ministry of Culture, nominated by the Government of India, you will need a capture tool to collect all his achievements, initiatives and projects. They are innumerable, diversified and demand a lot of his time and involvement. Be it something he is doing for the under privileged, or something he is doing to support talented youth, or something he is doing for the revival of the music and fine arts or saving a life!!!! Dr M R V Prasad spreads wide and deep with the impact he is creating in and around his space.
The role in Sangeetha Natak Academy is precious and privileged for sure. As a member of the committee, he gets a huge opportunity and platform to showcase the art talent of our state. Some of the key initiatives include – budgeted art and cultural programs to be conducted in India and Abroad, Fellowships and scholarships will be granted, and national level festivals can be hosted in our state as well!!! Felicitations and recognitions included. “Karmataka is a great cultural hub and we definitely need to promote our arts at national and international forums, this is a huge opportunity!” Dr M R V Prasad, says. We will use this platform to showcase the niche cultural dimensions of Karnataka – Yakshagana, Gamaka, Janapada and so on. This will enable and ensure that our art forms, artists and musicians will reach wider platforms and audiences. “Bangalore should in fact, host a national festival, he says.”
Dr Prasad is a classical Karnatic musician and loves music. He has learned music from the greats of our land included the veteran Shri R K Padmanabh. Along with him, he formed the Vaidraja Kala Bhavana…He has performed and given concerts for many years now, he is a B Grade artist in the AIR and much more! He has been President for the prestigious and one of the oldest institutions in Bangalore Gayana Samaj. He also has personally involved in propagating and encouraging the development, understanding and acceptance of the Haridasa Sahitya – he would like to give it a clear identity and growth charter. He is the principle connoisseur of the Haridasa Sampada Trust.
Dr Prasad is also a physician, educated from London. He has conducted 116+ free medical camps in the last few years – he is popular as ‘Badavara Vaidya’ or ‘Doctor of and for the poor’ –  I have treated lots of people and the feeling is one of contentment when people go back healed and comforted. Amazing! Dr Prasad is also an educationist – he has adopted Laxmi Primary school and supporting the education of the children ever since its adoption. Dr Prasad is also a politician and does inspiring work for the masses in BJP. Two years back he has also stood for elections in the legislative assembly and had garnered over 26500 votes!!! Well-deserved and way to go!
“I love working for causes, I love working for people and helping as much as I can. There is no question of winning or losing.” “We need to face all challenges and be undeterred,” he says. Be self-driven, motivated and highly energetic, you can do many things he says! He thanks his wife Shashi Rekha for her lifetime support and encouragement to his good work, he says she is the pillar of the family and has been unconditionally supportive. His son Satya Prasad and daughter Tejaswini and their families are a great source of happiness and peace for him even as they encourage their father in all his endeavors. His mother was a violinist, perhaps, a rarity in those times and his father was a PWD assistant engineer. Music has flown in his veins ever since!
Dr Prasad has also been the President of the Madhwa Yuwaka Sangha for the last 20 years!!! There are 20 students across various disciplines whose lives are being shaped up with his support – education, jobs, development, name it! It’s almost a 3 star hostel! Deliberately, he has appointed a lady there as the warden who gives the necessary ‘mother-like’ atmosphere and presence to the students there. He is also the Samsthapaka Adhyaksha for the Devagiri Raghavendra Matha, another prestigious institution. He is also taking care of the Women’s Brahmin hostel where over 100+ studying and working women are finding shelter and hope for their lives. Feels very humbling, Dr Prasad, says.
In 2011, Dr Prasad was also felicitated with the Karnataka Rajya Prashasthi, Basavanagudi Ratna and many more awards and felicitations. Truly deserved.
His message to our youth is: “Our youth should have a deep love of our country, its people, and environment and stop looking at things negatively.” Being positive is of utmost importance and then, everybody will be happy. Our cultural identity is important because we are a culturally rich country and we should develop, retain and promote our culture. Only money won’t help – we all need to have larger and life changing goals for ourselves.”
Dr Prasad is a man of action. He doesn’t wait for the right platform or the right opportunity. He creates them, himself. He has spent a lifetime in doing so. Life changing goals, clear objectives to enhance the people and environment around us. Special focus on healthcare, education, culture and people development. Great achievements have come by, many lives have been impacted. It is indeed humbling to know of a person who never tires. Who never sleeps, perhaps! The excitement, optimism and the energy is un-missable. That’s what makes the man what he is, simply outstanding.
